Replacement Icons for 7-Zip (ver3)
I have had quite a few people download the 7-zip icons I have created and with that a few comments to say there are missing archives and that it does not work for the 9.x series of 7-zip.
So I have now updated the zip file with new archive formats and I have tested this on Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) and Windows7 (32-bit and 64-bit) with 7-zip 9.15. I have now also tested the same files on Windows XP Pro 32-bit and it works just the same – so what are you waiting for? Update your 7-zip icons now
Here is an image showing all the current archives in the set, if I am still missing some let me know and I will eventually do a version 4
Download the Icons (4.58MB), please read the README included in the archive to install properly.
EDIT: As submitted by Bruno via our comments there is an alternative set of new icons for 7zip you may be interested in using, very nice redo of the default 7zip icon set.

I do not seem to have the same issue, however I have updated the set to include XP 256 colour icons so that should make them more clearer for XP

Weird … huh ? The download for “7-zip” icons is a .ZIP file and not a .7z file! Hmm!

Hi,
Awesome work with the icons, but could you please keep the download as a .7z archive. It is kind of ironic that the download is still a .zip file and using .7z uses lesser space too!

Yes I know it looks odd but to be totally honest I use 7-zip for mostly zip archives, I had one big failure with several 7z files and stopped using them since then. A more personal thing for me I guess

Well it is called 7-’zip’ and not 7-’z’ so really one could say the other way. Even so I know what your saying but I have not used 7z since a big issue I had with several archives, I now use zip or tar exclusively. It is more a personal thing

Hi Greg,
Sorry for the double-post. After I posted the first message, I saw the “awaiting moderation” thing and then the next day there was nothing there! Thought you had deleted the first message!

That is fine, it is not like I get 100′s of comments anyway so your double comment makes it look like more

Thanks for the icon set, are they freeware ? I would like to use the plainzip.ico in a little freeware utility I am writing.

Greg, nice icons, dude! For Windows XP, does your “Replacement Icons version 3″ work OK with 7-Zip version 9.20? 9.20 came out 2010-11-18 according to the website.

I have not tried it yet, I cannot see why not but I will check it when I get a chance and update if needed….. I will report back when I have done any updates.

Hi Ben, thanks for all your comments. I have just checked my install and I can see the icons on all views from list, details, small, medium and large icons view so yes it should work. Having said that I have not yet had a chance to test on the latest version of 7-zip, I just downloaded it and will test tomorrow and report back.
Also please advise what OS version and 7-Zip version you have.
Please be patient until I reply tomorrow
Thanks
Greg

OK I have done some more testing and for me the latest version works fine with my icons, I have none of the issues you describe and I have tested in both Windows7 and XP.
Again if you can provide the OS you are using I can take a further look to try and replicate the issue and then figure out a fix if one is needed.
Thanks
Greg

Great, thanks very much for taking the time to put this together.
&Zip is such a great little app, I don’t understand why decent icons aren’t packaged with the original .msi file.
Anyway, thanks again.

thanks! wonderful 7zip replacement set.
anyway, i found a tool for replacing 7 zip icons and it is using yours and various others.
it is a very great tool and it does not violate license of the icon creators.
to be fair, it linked the website of the authors who made the icons which includes you.

hope this helps!

Thanks for letting me know about the Theme Manager, I have now also created a post specifically about the Theme Manager available here http://thatnetsite.com/2011/04/7-zip-theme-manager/#more-341

If 7-zip would ever get high ranked, the first thing must be changed is the ugly icons, & I really encourage using Greg’s icons as they are the most good looking!
